Open-source Software

  • Free Software Foundation (FSF)
The Free Software Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 by Richard Stallman to support the development and use of free software and to promote computer users' rights to use, study, copy, modify, and redistribute computer programs.
  • GNU General Public License (GPL)
The GPL is the most popular free software license. It grants software users many freedoms including: the freedom to run a program, the freedom to study how a program works, the freedom to modify the source code, and the freedom to redistribute copies.
  • GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL)
The LGPL is a free software license designed as a compromise between the GPL and more permissive licenses. The LGPL puts restrictions on the program but does not apply them to software that links with it. It also allows linking to non-(L)GPLed programs.
